Smart Farms – The Link Between Biotechnology and Enhanced Nutrition

In 2016, a smart farm was established on the Opaskwayak Cree Nation reserve (OCN in Opaskwayak, Manitoba), which grew vegetables using hydroponic technologies originally developed in South Korea. When functional vegetables are affordable and readily available, communities stand a better chance fighting against a number of chronic diseases. How can we implement similar systems to provide greater food security to northern communities across Canada and beyond?
